Salad Spinner Art with the Nelson Family :)

Julia, Rachel Jane and Drew spin their art!

I found this salad spinner at a thrift shop (Deseret Industries) for two bucks.  It works perfectly.  I've also used the one in my kitchen, because the paint is non-toxic and cleans up with water.

Materials:

Salad spinner
Paper cut in circles, sized to fit the salad spinner
Tempera paint, thinned with water--thin spins better!
Small bowls and brushes for each color

Use a washable work surface, or protect with newspapers.  We placed the spinner on a large cookie sheet, because this kind drips out the bottom

  1. Cut several paper circles to fit.  Have the artist sign the back sides of the circles and place one at a time in the spinner.
  2. The artist chooses colors and drips several drops of the desired colors onto the paper.
  3. Secure the lid of the salad spinner and hold it down with one hand while spinning quickly with the other hand.

Rachel show us how it's done!

Voila!  Remove the spinner's lid and see what you have created.

Julia discovers her first spin art!

Drew with study in "Turquoise."

Cole Nelson concentrates on his
fingerpainting Messterpiece!

  1. This was so much fun! You came in like Mary Poppins times ten! This was a great activity for all ages. We are hoping we can do this again soon. Thanks so much.
